KNOX SPS – PATENTED SCAPHOID PROTECTION
Scaphoid fractures are one of the most common injuries in motorcycle accidents, and are the most difficult to heal. They happen when a rider instinctively tries to protect themselves by putting their hands out to save themselves in a fall. When the hand makes contact with the road surface, the glove grips (grab effect), hyper-extending the wrist and breaking the scaphoid.
The Knox patented Scaphoid Protection System(SPS), consists of 2 small, discreet pads that are strategically sewn to the glove palm. The SPS eliminates the grab effect, allowing the glove to slide away, which minimises the risk of hyper extension, and a broken scaphoid. It’s such an important part of the hand to protect and is included on every glove in the collection.
THE ICONIC HANDROID
The pinnacle of the Hand Armour collection is the Handroid glove, which was launched in 2010 but has been continually updated and improved since.
The Handroids striking design, with unique exo-skeleton spines for protection over the fingers, was an instant hit with riders when it was launched. Its continued appeal was recently confirmed, when it was voted the Best Summer Glove of 2021, in a poll of over 1000 riders.
Every glove in the Hand Armour collection is special, built for a type of rider or style of riding, with attention to detail on design specification. From the choice of technical materials for tear, abrasion and comfort, the style of SPS, through to the inclusion of discreet Micro-Lock impact protection, on the side of the hand, palm, wrist or knuckle area.
THE IMPORTANCE OF FIT
A great fitting glove is the holy grail of motorcycle riding gear. With features like the patented Boa wrist closure or Knox Lift and Lock fitting system, riders are sure of a secure and precise fit around the wrist, without loss of flexibility or dexterity when riding. Floating knuckles, wrap round fingers and the use of tough but durable stretch fabrics are considered in the fit process.
THE CE APPROVAL PROCESS
All Knox road motorcycle gloves undergo independent tests by an approved European test house, to be given the CE EN 13594 rating. The 15 tests carried include an analysis of the materials used, the fit, the cut of the glove, abrasion resistance, the all-important seam and tear strength as well as impact absorption.
FULL LENGTH HAND ARMOUR, ALSO KNOWN AS A GAUNTLET OR LONG CUFF GLOVES
Designed to be worn easily over a jacket sleeve in warm weather or in the case of waterproof gloves, they can be worn under the jacket sleeve to stop rain running in to the glove. The long cuff gives added coverage, security and protection on the forearm.
SHORT CUFF GLOVES
The popularity of short cuff gloves increases every year, due largely to the ease of use and overall convenience of this style. Building on an already successful line up, we now have improved options of great fitting gloves for every type of rider, riding style and in dry, hot, or wet weather. Hand Armour short cuff options include a style to suit every rider, riding style and across seasons.
WEATHERPROOF HAND ARMOUR
A mix of insulated and non-insulated models that take account of changing conditions and climates. All models are waterproof.
Knox Seal is the technical waterproof, breathable membrane incorporated into high end models. This membrane is fully laminated to the back of the glove shell. This clever technology ensures that rainwater is kept out, as the glove doesn’t pick up water, and the rider stays warmer for longer. This construction also means the glove is thinner, so feel of the controls and dexterity is improved, when riding.
High performance Primaloft insulation is utilised on the high end insulated Zero Mk3 model, for those riding in the coldest conditions.
