Knox Gilets have become increasingly popular since their introduction last year because they are designed to give maximum protection for minimum effort. For 2007 Knox has updated the top-of-the-range Gilet Air with extra features to make it even easier to live with.

Wearing a Knox Gilet is as simple as putting on a jacket but with the added benefit of an integral back protector and a removable chest protector, making it ideal for riders who need to get in and out of their gear over the course of a day’s riding. The Gilet Air is built for summer riding and uses a rip-proof sport mesh for breathability.

The ultra-light super-protective Contour back protector gets the venturi cooling system for this year, which channels body heat away from the rider and forces it up and out of the top.

Another new feature is the introduction of the IPS system (increased posture support) on the adjustable side straps, which are now fixed onto the mesh material so they won’t flap around when undone.

Like all Knox products, the Gilet Air is produced in a wide variety of sizes (from X-Small to / XX-Large) priced at £139.99.

In April 2006, after careful consideration, the Road Policing Unit of the Isle of Man Constabulary purchased KNOX CONTOUR back protectors for all its motorcycle staff. These were an upgrade to the Knox Air-X protectors already fitted in their jackets.

“They have proved to be an extremely comfortable option (to the point where you’re not sure if it’s on or not) and have proven to remain so for extended periods of riding,” comments PC De Backer.

During September 2006 an officer from the road policing unit was involved in an incident during which he came off his motorcycle. He recalls, “I landed heavily on my back and shoulder area. Whilst I received injuries to other areas of my body, my shoulders were sore for a couple of days and then they were fine. I’m convinced that, had I not been wearing my full back protector, that I would have suffered considerable injury to my back and shoulders. Despite me sliding up the road, the protector was undamaged and totally reusable.”

Around 19,000 bikes are expected on the Island for the TT Centenary this year and PC De Backer says that from experience most are keen to know what kit the Manx police riders use. “You can guarantee that we’ll be singing the praises of the KNOX CONTOUR”.
