These were an upgrade to the Knox Air-X protectors already fitted in their jackets. “They have proved to be an extremely comfortable option (to the point where you’re not sure if it’s on or not) and have proven to remain so for extended periods of riding,” comments PC De Backer. During September 2006 an officer from the road policing unit was involved in an incident during which he came off his motorcycle. He recalls, “I landed heavily on my back and shoulder area. Whilst I received injuries to other areas of my body, my shoulders were sore for a couple of days and then they were fine. I’m convinced that, had I not been wearing my full back protector, that I would have suffered considerable injury to my back and shoulders.
